Per the Official Railway Equipment Register of October 1974: ARR 8018 is a 54' boxcar. It has a door opening that is 6'10" wide by 11' 10" high. It has a capacity of 110,000 lbs. and is restricted to "Low Density Products Only". In October of 1974 it was a member of the 26 car class numbered from 8000-8025. It has an American Association of Railroads (AAR) Mechanical Designation of XM. An XM boxcar is a general service boxcar equipped with side or side and end doors. Observations about this car: This car has the XM symbol
painted between the vertical rails of the short ladder on the right
side Comments about the photo: The rusty wheels on this car
suggest that it had been sitting at this location for quite a long time
before this picture was taken. This picture was taken at the small BN
(NP) yard just north of S. Horton St. - Seattle, Wa. The only additional
spray paint on the car indicates that this car has been retired. There
is something wonderfully pristine about a freight car with no graffiti. |
