Back in the spring of 2000 (roughly 20 years ago) the ARR took delivery of their new 4000 series locomotives. I had the chance to photograph some of these units as they passed through Seattle on their way to Alaska. Back then there were two barge slips, the UP barge slip on Harbor Island (we visited that location) and the BN had a barge slip over in West Seattle. These pictures were taken in West Seattle, on a spring afternoon. The BN barge slip is no longer used.
