The photo looks to be a small Bucyrus steam shovel. - John Taubeneck
This old photo offers up typical February, March, early April weather considering the snow cover on the hills along with the sun angle and the clothing of the crew. It was taken in Seward looking toward Divide. Best guess is 1920-23 time frame when the big shovel was no longer needed for main line construction, but possibly mining gravel off the beach for the yard expansion. The large building may well be a photo of the engine house and machine shop with attached power plant. - Patrick Durand
