South bound freight leaving the Fairbanks yard and passing by the stub lead into the University of Alaska coal fired power plant. The University is strung out on the hill top overlooking the ARR main Line and would make a nice backdrop area for a model Railroad with photos of buildings representing the era being modeled. The Power plant has been a line side industry on the lower hillside since they started getting coal deliveries in the 1920's. -- Commentary by Pat Durand |
