Evan Jones Coal Mine
The Eska Coal Mines were just north of the Evan Jones Coal Mines at Jonesville. The tracks joined at a junction on the 6% grade downhill to Sutton and a wye and yard there.

The Eska Coal Mine Tipple had already been closed when this photo was taken. Tracks had been removed from the two loading bays. This is the down grade side of the complex.

The Eska mine and tipple are still in
service in this photo of the uphill side of the complex. Notice the gondolas
used. This is
sometime after 1948 as the gondola on the right was received about that time.
The Panama Flat with wooden side boards was typical of the cars used in coal
service. Hoppers were used at the Suntrana mine at Healy early on. My earliest
recollections from the mid 1950's also include hoppers on the trains going through
Palmer from Jonesville to Anchorage and the bases.
