Art Chase says of his photo, "Alaska Railroads 4317 leads a late afternoon
oil train back to Fairbanks. It is -51 degrees on my thermometer ( that 83
degree's below freezing!). The ice fog has been coming in waves all day long.
It has been so cold that hands freeze to anything metal instantly. She was
sitting back in the trees when I found them, and they were running in a high
notch
just to keep the diesels warm. When the train headed to Fairbanks, you could
hardly see them, but for the
blazing glow of those four bright lamps." 1/3/09
