Golden Glow Of The Last Frontier

March was always my favorite month for railroad photography for the decade I called our 49th state home. Why? Because of scenes like this here by the frozen pond and ghost forest at milepost 75.5 on the Alaska Railroad mainline from Seward. The month of March was still very much winter so you could capture sweeping arctic landscape vistas. But the long dark months were over and the sub zero temps were gone and on this day there was already 11 1/2 hours of sunshine...all of which was seemingly perpetual "sweet light" that draws photographers like honey draws bears!

Throw in three classic Geeps each wearing a scheme from three different eras on the ARR. Put those EMD veterans at the head of a 7000 or so foot long 120N freight out of Whittier and send them north along the shore of Turnagain Arm tucked hard by the Chugach Mountains.

So I posit the question.

Does it get any better than this?

I'll let this image answer that for you.
