Mixed Train Weekly I've shared some photos of the mixed freight before, including this shot of the very first one in many years that we ran back in 2009 when I worked to reinstitute the concept: https://flic.kr/p/2kYj6E8 Five years later it was still an occasional practice and I believe they still do it now and again to this day. Here is a Saturday northbound Winter Aurora making its 356 mile northbound run from Anchorage to Fairbanks including the flag stops as necessary in the roadless wilderness between Talkeetna and Hurricane. The two SD70MACs have the baggage car, two coaches, diner and 10 or so mixed freight cars well in hand here approaching the Parks Highway crossing at MP 206.3. Two years later this dangerous at grade crossing was finally replaced with an overpass. Montana, Alaska |
