I'm a little disappointed to be missing the massive snow dump that Anchorage received this week and the epic photos to be had after the shoveling is done. Since I can't experience it this time here's a memory for today's [11/15/23] IG post and FB repost. This gloomy day was still one of the most memorable chases I had in 10 years in Alaska. Yet another great afternoon spent out with Frank Keller! Looking back over a half dozen years ago when near the very end of March in 2017 southcentral Alaska got hit with a big early spring snow dump. Nearly a foot fell in some places and the fresh afternoon snowfall coincided fortuitously with a southbound freight from Anchorage to Whittier. As a bonus one of the ARR's three geeps remaining in their original as delivered 1976 paint job was on the point. Naturally a chase ensued! Here is a big 120S with GP40-2 3006 in the lead accelerating south out of the city just beyond the 100th Avenue crossing in South Anchorage near MP 106.6. Anchorage, Alaska |
