One Of Each At Gorilla Rock
Fall comes early in the 49th State and despite it still being officially summer there is a hint of early color among the leaves clinging to the cliffs along Turnagain Arm. A 125N with manifest interchanged from the CN's Aqua train that sailed from Prince Rupert, BC to Whittier is headed to Anchorage. They are seen here winding around landmark Gorilla Rock at about MP 91.5.
This is one of the very few times I ever caught a train with one of each paint scheme in my decade living in Alaska. A pair of GP40-2s, one each in as delivered black and gold and modern era 'baby mac' paint, lead a GP38-2 dressed in the 1980s 'Alaska Bold' livery.
