North Slope Pipe

Freight action on the railroad has increased steadily over the last few years, especially traffic like this coming out of Seward. The cars on this train will traverse nearly the entire mainline of the Alaska Railroad from Seward to Fairbanks, Alaska. SD70MAC 4010 leads two additional MACs north at MP 88, near the south switch of Indian Siding. While two MACs and a Geep might seem like over kill for 32 loads of pipe, they are very near maximum tonnage. Both Divide and Grandview Hills have grades of 3% making all this horsepower necessary for a short part of the overall 115 miles between Seward and Anchorage. Taken on July 31, 2024
