This is a picture of a southbound freight crossing the Riley Creek Trestle
in 1979. It was common for the southbound freight trains to pass through Denali
Park in the afternoon. Often they would meet the northbound passenger train
at Carlo. If the freight was a bit later, the meet would occur at Denali with
the freight sawing by (the siding was too short to clear the freight) the passenger
train which would hold the main so the passengers and baggage could be offloaded
while the freight passed on the outside siding track.
