Alaska Railroad GP40-2 3007 leads SD70MAC 4318 past the restored Nenana depot in the morning hours of March 14. The train had come from the other side of the river at the higher elevation and horshoed into town and river level. Nenana is home to the famous Nenana Tripod Ice Classic (tripod seen on the river in background where snow has been cleared around), which is an annual ice pool contest and fundraising event in which individuals attempt to guess the exact time the Tanana River ice will break up at Nenana. 3/14/17 |
