The Alaska State Fair takes place from late August to early September.
The Fairgrounds are located in Palmer at Mile 40 on the Glenn Highway.
A special Fair train runs on weekends and Labor Day.
The fair is exactly what you would expect from the state of Alaska.
Enormous! The rainbow of activities are as endless as the stars in
an Alaskan night sky. It is the place to come to see the giant vegetables
that are one of Alaska's claims to fame. The grounds are jam packed with
over 20,000 varieties of herbs, edibles and flowers with tours given daily.
There are kids games such as sack races, pie eating contests, egg toss,
wheelbarrow races and even two greased pole climbs. The Great Alaska
Chili challenge gives contestants a chance to show off there caustic concoctions
and the winner competes for $25,000, expenses paid, in the National Cook-off.
There are awesome rides, livestock auctions, stock car and monster truck
races, a bronc-busting, calf roping rodeo, volleyball, golf and horseshoe
tournaments.. hey you get the idea! Why are you just sitting there?!?
