A nice ABA consist in Fairbanks Yard. The rolling hills in the background are the same ones in Fairbanks looking south. It must be a cold day with the smoke from the coal fired power plant located at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Also known previously as the Alaska School of Mines. 1516 originally was Great Northern 438D built in 1948 a single unit oddity on the ARR, it was a late production F3A. The ARR purchased the 438 and numbered it 1516 in 1969 and was traded into EMD for new for an order of GP40-2 locomotives. The date was not recorded but the 1516 still had its two single chime horns, whereas by images in 1972, 1516 had addition horns. Circa late 1969 winter of 1971'72. The view of the yard also show us a view of a large amount of vintage 36' 10,000 gallon tank cars. This scene could be easily recreated in miniature scale today and shows us some nice details from an era gone to the books. - Mike Gerenday
