A Peek Behind the Curtain Everybody likes a peak behind the curtain so to speak so here's another shop scene from long ago in a place far away and another life. It's all quiet on the weekend in the Alaska Railroad's heavy repair back shop. Surrounded by the clutter of torches, traction motor combos, and the 50 ton jacks is black and gold GP40-2 3007. Built in April 1976 during those halcyon days of the pipeline construction boom she was a member of 15 total of the class bought new in three orders. The first 11 were delivered in this scheme, but by this date only six remained in black and gold. Today more than a dozen years later only three remain in their original colors and 3007 seen here was shipped to Seattle in 2011 and returned with a fresh current look as seen here.
