A Simple Portrait This freshly washed Geep rests south of the Alaska Railroad diesel shop on Roundhouse Track 5. The 1976 vintage EMD was built new for the Alaska Railroad and on this date still wears its classic black paint dating from the days of Federal ownership. Rising on the Government Hill Bluff can be seen the old Anchorage landmark water tower in its "Purina Chows" paint....a modelers delight. Note: 3008 actually has the cab from scrapped GP40u 3018 (an ex NYC/PC/CR unit) that it received after being damaged in a rollover incident in February 1995. Since the date of this photo 3008 has been repainted into the modern ARR scheme leaving only three GP40-2s in vintage black and gold. Anchorage, Alaska |
