This MOW track car, 1021, is one that was used primarily on the south end between Anchorage and Seward from the late 60's to the early 80's.  It was probably used and assigned to various section gangs and possibly to the temporary extra gangs.  I don’t know when or who last used this car before it was finally set out to the "bone yard" in Anchorage.
 
This is a Fairmont A-6 Gang Car.  It has a 6 cylinder Ford Industrial gasoline engine. It has a four speed manual transmission to a transfer case for forward or reverse travel. It is powered to the four wheels by a drive shaft to the rear axle and heavy duty chain and sprockets to front axle.  These cars were our main source of transportation for MOW crews of 5 to 10 people.  It was in the late 80's to early 90's that ARR started to replace the track cars with hy-rail pickups and trucks.  Many of these old track cars that
were new in 1960 to 1970 were worn out and "fugitives from the junk yard".
 
I want to get back to you later to give you a more detailed history of the various different track cars that I worked with and used during my career with the ARR from 1958 until I was finally given a hy-rail pickup in 1983.
